If you have a love of architecture, then surely you know who Ma Yansong is. In fact, you probably worship the ground he walks on. In case you're not yet a devout follower, let us introduce you. Ma Yansong is the key architect for MAD Architects. MAD is an architectural design firm based in Beijing, and represents the creative minds responsible for our popular Absolute Towers development in Mississauga. Founded in 2004, the contemporary studio has been showcasing their unique approach to architecture ever since. Their designs are futuristic, yet organic in that they're always striving to find the balance between 'humanity, the city, and the environment'. Here are six of their upcoming projects to look forward to.
Lucas Museum of Narrative Art - Los Angeles

After some debate about where it would be, the George Lucas Museum of Narrative Art's board decided the LA proposal would work best for that community. The $400 million attraction, that will contain 100,000 square feet of galleries is set to be built in Exposition Park. The plan for the imaginative structure includes public spaces, plant and tree covered terraces, and incredibly futuristic design.
China Philharmonic Hall - Beijing

The proposal for the new home of the China Philharmonic Orchestra suggests a 26,587 square metre venue, that will be found beside the Workers Stadium in Beijing. Plans revealed a unique structure draped in a translucent facade. The new concert hall is meant to serve as a 'pure and sacred oasis' in the middle of the busy urban landscape.
Fake Hills - Beihai

This incredible apartment complex in Beihai, China has had its first phase completed and is well on its way to mesmerizing fans locally and abroad. 'Fake Hills' gets in name from the roofline that rises and falls, not unlike a rolling mountainside. The ocean-front complex will accommodate tennis courts, swimming pools, and rock climbing facilities.
Xinhee Design Centre - Xiamen

This design centre for the international fashion group Xinhee is currently under construction in the coastal city of Xiamen. The design features five 'petals' that surround a central atrium. Much of the building is set to be covered in a PTFE envelope, which should give the appearance of 'soft skin' covering the bone-like structure of the building itself.
8600 Wilshire - Beverly Hills

The first US project to break ground, 8600 Wilshire, is a 'modest' residential project found in Beverly Hills. It will consist of 18 modern, white dwellings that are found above foliage-covered shops. A mix of townhouses, villas, studios, and condominiums will be set around trees as well as an elevated 'secret garden'.

This Parisian housing block is the first residential project done by MAD in Europe. With ripple-like balconies surrounding it, the 50 metre tall building will offer some incredible views of the stunning Paris skyline.
These are just a handful of projects currently in design and under construction, the list of upcoming projects is also quite long. But one thing is for certain, we can't wait to follow the progress of each of these inspiring and imaginative buildings.
