A month ago Canada made big news world wide. No, it didn't have anything to do with Drake, nor was poutine involved. It wasn't due to a heavy snowfall, or someone doing something incredibly nice or polite (thought it well could have been!). A month ago the New York Times named Canada, the entire nation, all of the 'Great White North' as the number one destination to travel to in 2017. We were in good company with the Atacama Desert in Chile, Agra, India, Zermatt, Switzerland, and Botswana taking the other top spots. While there are endless possibilities for places to explore around the globe, we have to agree, Canada is number one! And here's why...
1. Our Cosmopolitan Cities

From the west coast to the east the nation is spotted with an incredible number of amazing cities. World-class metropolises lie in each and every province, each with their own personality and attractions. Whether you're in Calgary, Toronto, Montreal, or Halifax you're guaranteed to find culinary and cultural delights.
2. Stunning Natural Wonders

Canada is rich in natural wonders and attractions, in fact, we're known for it! No matter where you are, you'll be able to find incredible natural landscapes. You could be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of Aurora Borealis up north, or stand among giants in the 800 year old Cathedral Grove forest in British Columbia, or hike across the breathtaking Canadian Rockies in Alberta and B.C. Whether you're east or west, north or south, Canada's natural environment will astound you (and make for very Instagramable moments).
3. It's Our 150th Birthday!

2017 is a big year for Canada since we're celebrating the nation's 150th birthday! A lot has happened, between Confederation and today, that's worth celebrating. So much so that the government is spending a half billion dollars to commemorate the historic celebration. What will this extravaganza entail? A cross-country RV tour and blow out party at Parliament Hill to name a couple! A large chunk of that ($300 million to be exact) will be going towards the 'Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program', which will help fix public facilities, as well as be put towards community infrastructure, culture, and recreation. Canadians can also look forward to free entry to the country's 200 parks and historic sites all year round.
4. It's Pretty Affordable

The New York Times also points out another key fact that makes Canada a desirable destination: our dollar! While the value of the Canadian dollar has been holding fairly steady as of late, it's still lower than the US dollar, meaning foreign travellers (especially Americans) will get more for they money if they visit!
There are so many reasons to love Canada, in fact, we could write a book on it! We can't wait to continue to celebrate our nation's 150th! You don't look a day over 149!
